Come along on this unique experience and spend one week freediving or snorkelling with Humpback Whales on the remote island of Eua, in the Kingdom of Tonga.
Throughout the week you will spend 4 full days out in the open water, snorkelling, freediving and playing with Humpback whales along ‘Eua’s famous Humpback Highway. With only two licensed operators on the island, encounters here are more intimate and relaxed than anywhere in Tonga. We have the whales all to ourselves! Our trips are guided by a local Captain, a marine biologist and our very own Dan Parsons, who has extensive experience and knowledge diving with whales, having previously worked with the famous marine biologist, Nan Hauser on an expedition to study them as well as being a safety diver on National Geographic’s documentary series ‘Secrets of the Whales’.
Group size is limited to 5 people per trip to ensure a personal experience.
We will be staying in a private beachfront cottage just metres from the ocean, with a reef to explore in your downtime. A highlight of the week is a traditional Kava & ʻUmu Feast, where we’ll share Tonga’s ceremonial drink and enjoy an underground oven-cooked meal.
This trip is open to all levels — absolute beginners, snorkelers and freedivers alike. With 40m+ visibility, the water around ‘Eua is crystal clear and the perfect place to connect with these incredible giants.
One of the biggest reasons our whale trips are so special is our small group sizes. We cap each trip at just five guests, dramatically increasing your water time with the whales. When we find a pod that wants to interact, we rotate one person at a time, allowing you to remain in the water for up to 40 minutes with a single pod — deeper, calmer, more meaningful encounters than you typically get with larger operators.
Most other operators run boats with eight or more guests, which means shorter water time and far more waiting on the boat.
For context: Tongan whale-swim regulations allow only four participants in the water at one time with a qualified whale guide. Larger groups must split into multiple teams, rotating every 10 minutes, which reduces individual swim time. Our small groups avoid this entirely, giving you more freedom, more time, and far richer encounters.
