QUESTION

How safe are group freediving trips?

Group freediving trips run under the same safety-first standards as our courses, with buddy systems, experienced instructors, and close supervision on every dive. That structure is what allows a group of mixed ability, from complete beginners to experienced divers, to dive together safely on the same trip.

The Safety Systems Behind Every Group Trip

Every dive on a trip runs with a buddy system in place, so nobody is ever diving unsupervised, regardless of experience level. Instructors are actively watching the group throughout each session, not just briefing at the start and checking in at the end.

Mixed ability groups are the norm rather than the exception on our trips, and the safety approach is built around that. Dive plans are matched to individual comfort and experience, so a first timer and a diver chasing a personal best can be in the water at the same time without either being put at risk by the other’s pace.

This standard comes from real world safety experience, not just internal policy. Our founder Dan Parsons has worked as a National Geographic head safety diver, and that background in managing risk during marine filming shoots shapes how safety is run across every trip, not just the flagship ones.

Being upfront about your experience and any health considerations before the trip helps instructors plan the group properly. It is a normal part of booking, and it is what lets the safety systems work as intended once everyone is in the water together.
